I can see entire text of message only if I use printable view--how do I get text to wrap properly?

Changing screen width for text or other to max or min values, or changing font size to smaller, does not help. Text runs off right side of message window and there is no horizontal scroll bar available--or if there is, I still cannot move far enough right to see the entire line before it wraps.
